Pets

Enjoy the companionship of your dog on your holiday, why leave them in kennels when you can bring them aboard.

We know how important pets are to you and this is why many of the Canalboats that we offer are Pet friendly, look out for the Pet Friendly symbol on our website .

Bringing your pet is a great idea , you can walk them alongside the boat on the towpath, as the boats only travel at walking pace , and when they have had a nice long walk you can get back onboard and they can sleep beside you at the back of the boat , as long as they are a lead so they don't get tempted to jump into the water!

With Cruiser stern boats there is plenty of room at the back of the boat, and even with semi- traditional stern narrowboats your pet can curl up and enjoy your company!

Your dog will enjoy the endless new walks to discover , as most canals have miles of towpath to walk along, and no traffic to worry about but look out for the wildlife in the canal and sheep in the fields. Remember to bring poo bags, there will be bins along the canal near villages and towns that you can dispose of these in.

Many canalside pubs welcome pets into their bar areas, and on a nice day you can sit outside and watch the world, and the boats, go by!

Many of the boats that we offer make a small charge for the pets, but some will include the 1st pet free of charge, click on BOOK NOW once you have found the holiday you want for details of any additional charges. Many boats will accept 2 or perhaps 3 pets , just look at the drop down box – Number of pets, on the Booking form under Holiday Costs.

Don't forget to keep your dog on a lead around locks as they are very deep, and dangerous once the water is flowing into them, maybe treat them to a doggy life jacket in case they like the water too much – they can be purchased from Boat Chandlery stores, see link here https://www.abcwebchandler.com/products/safety-and-navigation/personal-safety/besto-dog-bouyancy-aid-5-sizes

Take some spare towels in case your dog accidentally takes a dip in the canal, but don't let them drink the canal water, always have some nice fresh water on the boat for them, so remember to bring drinking and feed bowls.

Also if you need to leave the pet on its own for example whilst you go out for a meal, don't forget to bring a cage to put them inside the boat, as most boats have an awful lot of wood panelling and we would hate for it to get scratched if your pet is in unfamiliar surroundings as it might be tempted to try and get out and find you!

Also bring your pets bed and toys so it has something familiar and won't worry about where it sleeps . The pets cannot go on any of the furnishings in the boats.
